MEET ALEX

SILVERMAN

Family.

I was born in Columbus and spent my childhood in Berwick, a diverse neighborhood on the near east side. Graduating from Eastmoor Academy in 2004, I attended the Ohio State University for Hospitality management and became a trained chef by Le Cordon Bleu in Pittsburgh, PA. I met my wife, Brittany Silverman, as a teenager at the local St. Catharine’s Fun Fest in 2003. She spent 13 years as a Respiratory Therapist at Children’s Hospital and is now a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner at The Ohio State University. We are blessed to have two children Leon (9) and Lillian (6). When deciding where to raise our children, we made the best decision by moving to Bexley in 2018. I knew immediately that this city would provide everything that we desired in a community, strong schools, value driven citizens, strong and inclusive leaders, and community dedicated to safety and unity. As a father, I want my children to be raised in an inclusive, safe, and accessible neighborhood. I am running for Bexley City Council to help ensure that these things continue to be provided for all of the residents of this community.

Profession.

My background is in The Hospitality Industry. I spent my twenties starting up restaurants in the Short North. When Leon was born, I shifted to business food contracts to maximize time with my family. I spent 10 years working in correctional food departments and was fortune to be able to start a culinary educational program for incarcerated adults to help them become employed upon reentry. This was a foundational change for me personally, as I realized that serving others and working to better communities would continue to be a priority in my life. In 2023, I decided to learn a new segment of the industry and started working for the Wasserstrom Company, a Columbus company. As a professional, I consider myself to be a relationship builder and a driver of economic growth and I look forward to putting my professional skills to work for Bexley by helping to make Bexley more attractive to business owners, especially restauranters.

Bexley Resident.

After moving to Bexley, I know I wanted to find ways to become more involved. My first volunteer role was with the Montrose Elementary school, when Leon started Kindergarten. I partnered with the Bexley Education Foundation to coordinative kids’ art for the annual BEF BRAVO gala. and served the next two years as Vice President and President of the Parent Teacher Organization. I then shifted focus towards community building through the Bexley Minority Parent Alliance (BMPA) and The Bexley Celebration and Events Committee. In summer of 2022 I worked to
bring the Smoke and Fire Festival to South Bexley, the first annual event at Schneider Park. I have also served on planning committees for BMPA Art Auctions, Circle of Excellence, Juneteenth, Hispanic heritage, & Asian-American Pacific Islander Heritage. I am also lifelong member of the Bexley Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association, and work with the Police department to increase our safety protocols and emergency incident management for residents. If elected to serve this community on the Bexley City Council, not only will I be deeply honored, but I will demonstrate my commitment to the city and its residents by ensuring that I am an active, attentive, and accessible leader.
